Falconry

Alex the Saker Falcon

Alex the Saker Falcon

The falcons and owls you can meet here came with me from Sussex, where they were known as ‘Sussex Downs Falcons’ and took part in many displays, fetes and talks. Some of the falcons were trained to fly free and others took part in breeding programs. Since coming to France, they have, like their owner, been able to retire and now live happily in their aviaries. It has proved impossible to fly them at liberty in France as there is an enthusiastic hunting and shooting culture which would put them at considerable risk.

Our Aviaries

The aviaries where our birds are cared for.

Many of the falcons and all the owls are imprinted, which means that they have been hand-reared mainly by me, and regard me as their mate. This results in birds which are extremely at ease with people and very happy to share human company and so can be seen at very close quarters.

Birds of Prey are content to remain in aviaries as in the wild, they only fly to hunt to kill when hungry, and in captivity, obtain ample extremely good quality food and the best of care and veterinary treatment when necessary. As most of these have been captive bred, they do not miss the wild, and it gives an opportunity for the public to see and appreciate these amazing birds and hopefully, help preserve their wild cousins. After all, we can only fight for what we know about and understand, and I hope this collection will help people learn more about them and help their wild counterparts.

Enfin

Nous conservons seulement

Cela qui nous aimons

Nous aimerons seulement

Cela qui nous comprenons

Nous comprendrons seulement

Ca qui nous avons appris

In the end:

We conserve only

that which we love

We love only

that which we understand

We understand only

that which we have seen.
